FOX’s “Vanished” Looks Like D.O.A.

The more previews I see for the new FOX show “Vanished” the more it looks like total shit to me. They keep trying to sell it different ways, but I get the feeling the pilot is going to pull in some of the lowest ratings of the year for pilots. FOX isn’t just hyping the hell out of the show, but they’re slotting it behind their big guns, notably their new mammoth hit “Prison Break”.
Good idea, bad product.
Fact is, “Vanished” looks like total shit. It has a stupid premise, and the leading man is so dull and average that the previews don’t even highlight him. Their big action set piece? Some random car exploding in a woods and the hero (fake) leaping away from the ball of explosions. Yaaaaaaaaaaawn.
And they keep trying to insert some conspiracy angle involving their President into it, i.e. capitalize on all the ill-will Bushy boy is having in real life by inserting yet another Evil President into their show. Hell, it worked for “24″ and “Prison Break”, right? Why not “Vanished”?
“I”m sorry you feel that way, Mister President” indeed!
Ming-Na Wen is in it, which is a plus. She should get more leading roles in TV series. Too bad this one isn’t going to last past 10 episodes — if it even gets there, that is.
FOX seems to have a lot invested in this show. They must have footed the bill for the production, which would explain the heavy ad rotation. I don’t know who greenlit this thing, but they’re gonna get fired when the show tanks like a sonfabitch.
Can’t wait for “Prison Break”, though…

Ming Na Wen in FOX’s dead-on-arrival show “Vanished”.
